8 Benefits of Rosewater

I always thought that rosewater seemed like such an unnecessary product. It’s so expensive and just seems frivolous. Doesn’t it? I honestly don’t remember what triggered me to start researching it a few months ago, but when I did, I knew instantly that I had to figure out how to make it. Roses are powerful little flowers that we definitely take for granted.

Rosewater has been used for thousands of years. It has many benefits, so let’s dive in.

#1: Helps soothe skin irritation

Rosewater has strong anti-inflammatory properties and may soothe eczema, rosacea, dry skin, and decrease skin redness. It is also incredibly hydrating and astringent, making it an excellent toner for the skin and as well as an excellent tool against fighting acne.

#2: Soothe sore throats

I’m not sure I’d drink rosewater, although it’s safe to, but you can apply it topically to the throat for some relief.

#3: Wound healing

Rosewater is a powerful antiseptic and antibacterial compound. It can help with healing of scars, cuts, and burns. We also use this as an after-sun or sunburn tonic to heal the skin.

#4: Antioxidant powerhouse

Rosewater contains lots of antioxidants and helps protects our cells from damage.

#5: Mental health

Didn’t see this one coming, did ya! A 2011 study found that the extracts of rose petals can relax the central nervous system. This means it has the potential to support those with depression and anxiety.

#6: Headache aid

The aroma of roses provides relief for headaches and can help lower stress.

#7: Anti-aging

I will literally try anything that has a remote chance to aid (aka decrease) my production of wrinkles. Roses and rosewater are incredibly hydrating and may further promote collagen and elastin synthesis which in turn helps those of us with aging skin.

#8: Your hair will thank you

Spraying rosewater on your hair will not only hydrate and smooth your hair, it will make it soft and smell amazing! It is also a natural de-tangler for those of us with knotted strands.

Rosewater needs preserving to keep it fresh and preventing mold growth. It can be mixed with witch hazel, which is what makes it a toner, or it can be combined with a natural preservative such as linatural, which will keep it shelf stable.

Rosewater is generally safe and well tolerated unless you have an allergy to roses. You can find it in several products on the market as well as in our very own Rosewater Toner by KHH. This is a must-have in my arsenal and I encourage you to check it out!
